It’s story time y’all. Hopefully you’ll get a kick out of it rather than think I’m an asshole. Nonetheless, here we go.
Back in August of 2021 when I first started this blog and actually got serious about the schedule, my ideas and creating my webpage….I also made a separate Gmail account for my blog. I was so proud of myself. I even wrote myself a sweet pump-up email and told myself that if I never receive any emails on this blog page that it would be fine & that my heart was in the right place.
I checked that damn email account every day for mooooonths. About midway thru January 2022, I was over it. I had received not one single email. Not even spam! How could spam mail even evade me?! I was literally hurting my own feelings that no one was emailing me. WHY AM I THE WAY THAT I AM? I’ll tell you why – because I’m a sensitive lil weirdo.
Lo & Behold….in the middle of February, I got my first & very nice email from a marketing person at Dan-O’s Seasoning….I never responded BECAUSE I NEVER SAW IT TIL MARCH 14.
I’m still very new to the whole affiliate / collab / partnership “thing” on Instagram. I find them daunting. I find them appealing. I find them fun. But seriously, who the hell wants me to advertise their products? Well, actually, quite a few people have been reaching out over the past 30 days so, it would appear that *many* people want to work with me and exchange my content for their products, so what the hell do I know.
I checked out the Dan-Os website and saw that they are based in Louisville, Kentucky – um, already a major plus to do some advertising for my home state! Everything seemed fun & legit – also straight forward. They listed the terms of the agreement & it all seemed easily do-able. I talked to an affiliate-application-checker and suddenly everything was done!
A week later I received my sweet goody bag of 3 different kinds of spices wrapped with care in the mail – I loved that they all ranged from “OG to HOTTEST” and boy are they tasty! I got a cute Dan-Os Tshirt & a koozie – sign me up! Who doesn’t love a koozie?! Let’s just say, they definitely spoke my love-language.
I sniffed all the spices, read the ingredients & enjoyed the fact that they are low-sodium but high on flavor! I reallyyy hate it when I specifically purchase a “spice blend” but still have to add an abundance of Salt & Pepper – truly defeats the purpose & misses the mark in my opinion. With Dan-Os, you won’t run into that problem!
this little baby goes perfectly with literally anything. Sorry, I know that’s not helpful but I’ve included pictures to show you just how versatile the OG spice is! The first time I used Dan-Os, we were making grilled chicken Caesar salads – great, no problem. I sprinkled it on the chicken with a little olive oil to keep everything moist – the OG flavor didn’t compete with the Caesar dressing nor did it drown out the delicate flavor of the massaged kale!
I also used Dan-Os OG on steamed potatoes that we charred & crisped to perfection in a cast iron skillet – WOO WEE those little taters turned out so damn delicious that I will actually post that as a separate blog entry – trust me, it was amazing & deserves its own recipe post! The seasoning didn’t char or burn and become bitter like some spices tend to do. The thing I realized about Dan-Os seasoning is that it doesn’t clump up or get hard when you use it, which is a plus when you’re wanting to grill certain items while using the seasoning!
the spicy is like, “spicy” but not too spicy *insert Regina George quote here* I realize we all have different spice levels, but I enjoyed that their version of Spicy isn’t “run you out of the kitchen” kind of spicy. This blend amps up the flavor without making your tastebuds, nose or eyes suffer – you feel me?
I used the Spicy blend the most! I absolutely loved it! Yellow Squash & Zucchini in the cast iron – throw some Spicy Dan-Os on it! The rosemary & lemon peel that are part of the “base” of EVERY Dan-Os spice is what really plays well with all veggies – giving you a bright taste that’s perfect for spring!
I make an awesome Garbanzo Chickpea Chicken Salad – that will be a later blog entry, don’t you worry. And I used the Spicy on both the Chicken Thighs that we grilled and the Chickpeas that I roasted in the oven – both of the flavors were AWESOME. I gave the chickpeas a squeeze of lemon juice while they were roasting and that freshened up the flavor as well. I served this salad with my homemade Honey Mustard dressing and it paired deliciously well with the Spicy blend – cant wait to make Dan-Os seasoning blends part of my everyday spice routine!
the hot definitely delivered a kick, I tell you what. Sheeeewww LAWD it set me ablaze a few times – but in a totally good way! The slow burn rather than the “my house & mouth is on fire” kind of singe that will scar you for life. This Hot blend will hit all the right notes to transform any dish without making you beg for your life. When I used this blend, I truly enjoyed the heat because I could taste the spice AND the food I put it on – does that make sense? I didn’t *just* taste heat, which was nice because usually that’s why I stay away from super spicy food because all I taste is the regret & the heat.
The Hot Chipotle was even a welcome kick in my already-amped-up Shrimp & Grits! I decided to use it solely on the grits to give them a completely different flavor and keep my cajun shrimp the same – man that Hot Chipotle blend went GREAT with the gouda cheese I hand-grated and melted in with the grits. Truly perfection.
I truly enjoyed working with everyone at Dan-Os. Their mission is simple – make some delicious-ass food and it can literally be sprinkled on ANYTHING!!! I didn’t create any “new” recipes perse, but I definitely jazzed up some of our favorite dishes with the addition of Dan-Os and it was a game-changer! I used their seasonings on multiple proteins, veggies, & starches – you literally can’t go wrong with anything you decide to sprinkle the Dan-Os trio on! I tagged them in an Instagram story once & told them “you need to have a saying similar to Franks Red Hot – ‘I’d sprinkle that shit everywhere!’ “ Their Instagram page is FULL of fun recipes & videos – check them out! @danosseasoning – I also recently found out that Dan-Os Seasoning is available for purchase at BJs Wholesale Club – another win! Enjoy y’all!
